Aladdin & the Lamp

Jemima Tengaripa

I read Aladdin and the Lamp
The main characters are Aladdin, the rich man, Aladdin's mother, the Emperor and the Emperor's daughter.

Aladdin was a young boy who lived in China with his mother who was really poor. One day a rich man goes to Aladdin and says "I want you to work for me." Aladdin accepted because he is poor.
Aladdin takes the man to a cellar and the man asked him "Go get my magic lamp and bring it back to me."
Aladdin saw the magic lamp and looked around him and saw many beautiful diamonds. Aladdin went to the rich man and then the man said "Give me the magic lamp," but the brave boy Aladdin said "Let me out first."
Aladdin remained in the cellar with the lamp. He was afraid, but as he
pondered a genie appeared and said:
"I am the genie of the lamp. What can I do for you? You are entitled to three wishes.
Aladdin said "I want to be with my mother." Then he was left with his mother. "I want money and a new house" and Aladdin became rich and went to see the Emperor and asked if he could marry his daughter. The Emperor said: Are you rich? Then he replied: "Yes", and the rich
Emperor accepted and he got married
Now he lives his happily with his mother, his wife and her beautiful parents.

I do not really like this story, but other students can read this book. Aladdin realized his wishes and that is what I love about this story.

Muhammad Ali

Jemima Tengaripa

I read Muhammad Ali. It is the story of a great champion.

One young black boy went to a gym and talked to Joe Martin, the trainer there.

Joe said "Can you box?"

"No, but I could box and I want to fight some other boys."

Joe says "I can teach you. What's your name?"

"My name is Cassius Clay."

"Ok you are going to be a boxing champion."

Cassius went to the gym six days a week because he liked doing that, but he was not a good student at school

6 years later he had had 108 fights and he had won 100 fights.

In 1960 he went to Rome and boxed for the US when he was only 18 years old. He won an Olympic medal for the US. Cassius was a boxing champion in Louisville. He was famous, but he was black.

In 1964 Cassius was 22 years old. He was tall and strong and had won 19 fights as a professional. The world Champion was Sonny Liston. The newspaper said "Clay can beat the Champion"

Cassius went to fight in Miami. Young Cassius said, I'm beautiful, I'm good, I'm quick and I'm strong." The fight was on February 25. In round 1 Clay danced and in rounds 2, 3 and 4 Clay danced across the ring. Clay was always moving away, and in this way he exhausted and bet Liston.

Cassius had a new name "My name is not Cassius Clay now. It's "Muhammad Ali" Clay he said is a white man's name. In 1967 the US army was in Vietnam. The US government called Muhammad

Ali and said "Your country wants you in the army." "I'm not going to go into the army." The US government said "go into the army or go to jail" Ali said "I'm a boxer. I fight people because that's my job." In 1970 the US government said " you can box again" and he became world champion again. In 1980 Ali lost to Trevor Burbick. Ali was slow and tired but Ali was happy because he was the first famous black American.

Now Ali is working for peace in the world. He is our American Nelson Mandela. Ali is 50 years old and was he has nine beloved children. He moves very slowly now and he likes watching his old

fights on TV.

This book is very nice because Ali is happy because he is a famous boxer, an Olympic and world champion.

Grace Tengaripa

I read A New Zealand Adventure. I started reading it on the 27th of August and I finished it on the 29th of August.

The main characters are two young girls on holiday in New Zealand. The young girls went to New Zealand for their holidays. When they

arrived in New Zealand were excited because they had never seen this

country and they had dreamed of going there.

In the taxi they spoke only of things that they intended to do. After going to their hotel, they went into the city to take photos. Then Jessica had the desire to send a message to her friend with her laptop. And in the message she told him they were well on arrival and were enjoying themselves.

They had gone to New Zealand to discover the landscape that they had so dreamed of.

The message of this book is that young girls can have fun in New Zealand and discover another country which is very beautiful.

Jaws

Kris Chenchop

By Peter Benchley

I read Jaws. I started reading it on the 27th of August and I finished reading it on the 30th of August. This story is set in Amity near New York, about thirty years ago.

The main character is Jaws, a shark. I think it is a dangerous animal. It is distinguished by canine teeth.

The story tells about the shark. A woman goes swimming in the sea, in the evening. The shark carried the woman away in its mouth. It came up out of the water and then went under again. The woman felt something hit her right leg. She put her hand into the water and tried to find her foot. Then she cried out. On the second day, Hendricks Brody and Cassidy saw the woman's body on the Beach. The next few days were hot, and summer visitors from New York began arriving in Amity. More people were going to the beach. The shark attacked people again. People were running away from the sea because the shark was very dangerous. Now two people had died.

Quint and Hooper put a cage overboard. Then the shark did not turn. It hit the cage and made a hole in it, and Hooper fell back! When the shark was a metre from the boat, Quint stood and watched the shark and used a gun to shoot it and the shark died! The shark slowly fell back below the surface of the water, down and down, out of the light.

I rate this book as exciting. This book has some pictures. They let me understand more things, so it was interesting. This is a good book! I hope other students will read it!

I read In Trouble with the Law. This is an authentic record, and very funny. I started reading it on the 29th of August and I finished reading it on the 31th of August. The book's main character is very funny!

Kevin worked as a courier for Swift Deliveries. He delivered flowers and parcels to shops all over Riverton. He liked his job. But, one day it is his friend Pam's birthday party. He drank a glass of beer and drove away from the hotel. Then he encountered a policeman. A few weeks later Kiri walked into the kitchen with the mail in her hand. It's a court summons for driving while over the alcohol limit. This says he has to go to court next month. He lost his job and he finds a lawyer. The lawyer helps him.

This is a good book, and a good story. It tells us to be honest, so I want to introduce it to my fellow students.

Phamee Rungrueang (Toomtam)

By LESLIE DUNKLING

Genre : True Story

Date started : Monday 30th August 2010

Date finished : Wednesday 1st September 2010

The Loch Ness monster might be a big strange fish, monster or dragon. The truth has not been found out. The Loch Ness monster is the strangest thing in Scotland. English people call a lake 'a lake' but Scottish people call a lake 'a loch.' This loch is in the North of Scotland. The common name of The Loch Ness monster is Nessie. The Loch Ness monster was first found about 25,000 years ago. They lived in the River Ness. This river was not clean and it was deep, actually about 975 feet. There was news about a monster living in the river in 1933. There was a couple who did not believe in the news and went to the river. They saw the monster and came back to tell a reporter. It was news again in two different a newspapers. One of the newspapers said there was not a monster in the river. In 1934, a man went to the river and saw and drew a picture of the monster. This made the newspapers report this news again. Many people did not believe the news and there were many questions about this. People forgot this after that year. There was a couple who took the photo of the monster when they were walking along the River Ness. It became a news again. People started to talk about this again. In 1960, Tim went to make a film and the monster was on television. This River Ness became famous and many people went to see the River Ness but they could not see the monster so people went to watch the film. There is lots of business related to this movie such as games and pictures. However, there are still questions to be answered.

I think this book is the best book for people who want to know about animals. This book taught me about history in the world. It is a story that I should know and learn.

Michael Jordan is my idol. He is the world's most famous basketball player. I understand he is one of the most famous players in basketball history, Michael Jeffery Jordan was born February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. His family moved to North Carolina when Michael Jordan was still small. The youngest of three children, he was considered the most lazy of the three. Although he slacked through the school, when he hit high school, things began to reverse. He began to get better results, and got more interested in three different sports: football, baseball, basketball. In his sophomore year, he was cut from a basketball team, because he was only 5 foot 9. In the summer, he continued training, and grew up to 4 inches, and so he got back in a team. In his final year of high school, was selected for the McDonald's U.S. team. When he was going to college at the University of North Carolina, it wasn't clear what kind of person he would become, but he helped lead his team to win the NCAA championship in 1982. Then he dropped out to enter NBA draft. In 1984, he was taken on by the Chicago Bulls. From then on, he became a star.

Pitifully, Aladdin rubbed the lamp, and in front of him he was presented with a kind of vast white thing. It seemed a huge monster, but actually it was the god of the lamp, a genie. She runs after it into a rabbit hole and finds herself in another world. This world has many strange animals and has a very brutal red queen. The queen likes to cut off someone’s head. Animals really fear her and live very unhappily. But the animals were very friendly to Alice and help her to go home. In her time to find her way home she matches wits with the red queen and eventually returns to her world.

I like this story. I think the story is very interesting. The story tells me about "the treatment of things to face and to resolve to use wisdom."

I recommend you read this story. With this book there are some words I do not know, but overall it is fairly simple, and not difficult to read.I hope that you have the opportunity to read this story.

He is a happy man from a happy home with a lot of love. His best friend is his brother. However, Michael says, “We played basketball games everyday. Even on rainy days," he says "No problem We played basketball." A lot of campuses wanted him. Suddenly, he liked the University of North Carolina (UNC). In his first year at university he met Dean Smith. He taught him lots of things. The main thing that Dean Smith says is "All players are important." He won a game with 61,000 around him.

The NBA, 1984-93 Jordan hears his name. The Chicago Bulls want him. The bad thing is the Bulls weren't a good team in 1984. They won only twenty-seven of eighty-two games. But they gave Michael $6,000,000 for seven years. The Bulls always says to the player "You play for us now. No vacations, this is your job." Nevertheless, he kept working hard on basketball and became a good player, and has also won many games. So it became known that "He could be a big star." Later on He married Juanita and they have 2 sons and a daughter.

Now he has a lot of money from his life in basketball. IN 2000, he bought an NBA team. They aren't a good team. Michael Jordan isn't a player this time. Is Michael Jordan going to fly ?

I think this book is the best book for people who want to learn about a famous player and love to know about basketball. This book is taught me how to be a good basketball player and a good son. Every sport is a good sport to play if you love to play and focus on the sport like Michael Jordan does.

Apollo 13

Shen (Patrick) Hu

I read APOLLO 13. This is an authentic record, and very famous. I started reading it on the 14th of August and I finished reading it on the 17th of August.

The book's main characters are astronauts.I think they're very brave and resourceful.

Apollo 13 narrates the story of 3 astronauts trip to the moon. Originally the astronaut’s task was so dangerous but due to an accident they were placed in a completely different strange world. They could have been abandoned in outer space, never to return to earth. Drifting in an infinite universe would be really terrible.

As a component of the damage, the return to earth opportunity was fading. When they overcame some technical problems new problems come up. The temperature was sharply down, but by now I saw their team solidarity and cooperation. They pumped up and encouraged each other. They made a successful landing on earth! Seeing the astronauts go safe out of the cabin, I gave a deep breath.

The book made me see people's calmness in the face of danger, wisdom and a spirit of cooperation. It also showed the family of a nation, or in other words national unity, When I read this book I could feel the astronauts worry and fear, but also delight in their success. Apollo 13 is a good book, and a good story so I want to introduce it to my fellow students. The book tells me to be brave.

The leader of the thieves went up and stood in front of a big round stone. He put up his hands and cried. The stone opened slowly and Ali Baba could see a cave. It was big and very dark. The thieves did something and they went out. Ali Baba wanted to know what was inside. He was still afraid but he climbed down and walked over to the stone. He put up his hands and whispered. The stone moved and Ali Baba walked into the cave. He could not believe his eyes. The cave was full of gold and silver. Everywhere he looked he saw gold, gold boxes. Come and see what your father has found. And then he is going to go to take the all gold and he became very rich man.'

I think the best point in this book is
If there is a chance for change it must be exploited, because the chance comes once in a life.

I rate this book as good because it's very nice. The English level I rate as easy so I want to introduce it to my fellow students. :-)

In Trouble With The Law

Kris Chenchop

I read In Trouble With The Law. I started reading it on the 14th of August and I finished reading it on the 16th of August.

This book’s time and place isn’t given. The main character is a boy. I think he is twenty-six years old.

One day Kevin was going to Pam’s birthday in a hotel. Today was Pam’s birthday, and she was buying a few drinks to celebrate. Pam was putting a glass of beer into Kevin’s hand saying "The drinks are on me!" Kevin smiled to himself as he drove away from the hotel. He liked going to the pub and meeting with his friend. Kevin saw a red light flashing. He thought had had an accident. But it wasn’t an accident. It was a police checkpoint. They were looking for drunk drivers. Suddenly Kevin felt worried. He didn’t feel drunk, but he knew he had drunk beer. He wished he could turn the van around, but it was too late. Kevin had got caught by police officers and he got confined to a prison for 2 years.

I think the best point in this book is he was not lucky because he didn’t study the driving laws. He got retribution for not respecting the driving laws.

I rate this book as good because it can teach you about the law. I want to introduce it to my fellow students and everybody who likes to read books.

Extreme Sports

Rungrueang Phamee (Toomtam)

Author:
Michael Dean

Genre: Sports

Date Started: Friday August 13, 2010

Date Finished: Sunday August 15,2010

There are many places and times. There is more than one main character. The book explains about many extreme sports such as aerial ballet, aggressive in-line skating, BASE jumping, BMX bike riding (vert), canyoning, cave diving, hang gliding, snowboarding, street luge, wakeboarding, and zorbing.

BASE jumping: BASE jumping started at El Capitan, a 915-meter-high mountain in Yosemite, an American national park in 1978, and from 1981, you have had to do 100 skydives and then you get a BASE number. Phil Smith of Houston, Texas, is BASE 1. You jump off a building, a bridge or a peak with a parachute. You usually open your parachute as late as possible.

Hang gliding: Flying was Bill Moyes's life. He loved to fly, but didn't like airplanes. In 1966, he flew higher than any man in the world, at 350 meters above the ground. In 1970, he stopping jumping off mountains. This is the oldest extreme sport. Otto Lillienthal, a German, did it in 1893

Aerial ballet: Skying Orlando, in Umatilla, Florida, is famous for skydiving. World champions jump from airplanes here and skydive down through the sky. If it is your first visit to Florida and your first skydive you can play $200 for it. You jump out of an airplane with some friends. Before your parachute opens, you dance with them in the sky.

Snowboarding: In 1965, the Poppen family were at home in Michigan, US. Sherman Poppen had an idea. He went into his garage and made a board. Now we call it a snowboard. In 1998, a resort was the first extreme sports center in the US for snowboarding. The Winter X Games were there and snowboarding was one of the games. Snowboarders do tricks on their snowboards in the snow.

Cave diving: You dive under the water with air tanks on your back, for example in Florida in the US. Cave Diving is an expensive sport. The cave is dark and quiet and very beautiful.

Bungee jumping: When you bungee jump, you jump from a mountain or from a building. Bungee jumping started in New Zealand and the magazine National Geographic wrote about it in 1955. The highest bungee jump was 180 meters from a building in Auckland, New Zealand.

BMX bike riding (Vert): Every year in the US there's a Summer X Games and a Winter X Games. The first Summer X Games was in 1995 in Rhode Island. There are three kinds of BMX bike riding. In vert you do as many tricks as you can in one minute.

Aggressive in-line skating: You jump up high on your skates. You kick and you do tricks. You can join in every year in the US at the Summer X Games.

Street luge: The board has wheels on it. You get on the board, on your back, and go down the road at about 110 kph. It is so fun.

Wakeboarding: There is a swim from Alcatraz, a prison in the water near San Francisco. Now every fall, people swim from there to San Francisco. A boat pulls you and your board over the water fast. You do tricks on your board.

Zorbing: You climb into a three-meter ball. Then somebody pushes the ball down the street at about 50 kph.

I think the book tells us that extreme sports are dangerous and exciting. I think the best point in the book is the idea that extreme sports can help us to kill fear. I rate this book as nice because it is not too difficult. I like BMX because it is so fun and amazing. I would recommend other students do it because it is fun and so easy.
